Installation Method For Repair Clamps

Pre-installation Preparation
Model Selection & Verification: Select a repair clamp that perfectly matches the pipe material (cast iron, PVC, PE, etc.) and diameter. Confirm that the sealing gasket material is compatible with the conveyed medium; under standard operating conditions, the sealing pressure can reach 1.6 MPa.
Surface Cleaning:Use a wire brush to thoroughly remove rust, oil, and sediment within a 5–10 cm radius of the leak, exposing the bare metal or smooth pipe surface. Smooth out any sharp protrusions with sandpaper to prevent scratching the sealing gasket.
Auxiliary Treatment: Apply an even layer of grease to the outer pipe wall and the surface of the clamp's rubber gasket to reduce installation resistance and improve the sealing fit.
Tool Preparation: Have the appropriate wrenches (or torque wrenches), cleaning cloths, and neutral detergent ready. For large-diameter clamps, arrange for two people to work together.

 

Standard Installation Steps
Positioning & Alignment: Clamp the upper and lower halves of the repair clamp around the pipe from both sides. Ensure the leak is centered within the clamp body and the bolt holes on the upper and lower flanges are precisely aligned; do not force bolts through misaligned holes.
Sealing Gasket Insertion: Pre-fit the rubber gasket fully into the groove on the inner wall of the clamp body. Ensure the gasket is not twisted or offset; if the gasket has positioning tabs, align them with the corresponding holes in the groove.
Initial Tightening: Insert all bolts and attach the washers and nuts. Hand-tighten the nuts until snug, ensuring at least three bolt threads protrude beyond the nut to guarantee basic fastening strength.
Diagonal Stepwise Tightening: Tighten the bolts in stages following a diagonal sequence. Do not fully tighten a single bolt at once, as uneven stress on the clamp body could cause the gasket to shift and fail; maintain a uniform gap between the flanges on both sides. Seal Verification: After tightening, allow the assembly to sit undisturbed for 5–10 minutes and inspect the edges of the sealing ring and the flange joints for any signs of leakage. If slight dripping occurs, the bolts may be tightened an additional quarter-turn following a diagonal sequence; however, excessive tightening that could crack the body of the split-sleeve coupling is strictly prohibited.
