Tools And Steps For Installing A Pipe Repair Clamp (Half-Shell Clamp)

Aug 06, 2026 Leave a message

List of Essential Tools and Materials
Basic Fastening Tools: Adjustable wrench, torque wrench, and appropriately sized screwdrivers for the step-by-step tightening of bolts.
Pipe Pre-treatment Tools:Wire brush, sandpaper, and cleaning cloth for removing rust, oil, and burrs from the area surrounding the pipe damage.
Auxiliary Sealing Materials: Matching rubber gasket, sealant, and petroleum jelly/grease (note: extra sealant may not be required for clamps that come with a complete sealing kit).
Auxiliary Testing Tools:Pressure gauge for conducting hydrostatic or airtightness tests after installation.

Standardized Installation Steps
Preliminary Preparation: Verify that the clamp specifications match the pipe's outer diameter (tolerance within 2mm); close the upstream valve to reduce pressure (if the water supply cannot be completely shut off, reduce the pressure at the leak site to below 0.6 MPa).
Pipe Pre-treatment: Use a wire brush to abrade the leak site and the surrounding 5–10 cm area, thoroughly removing rust and dirt until the bare metal is exposed; wipe clean with a cloth, then apply grease evenly to the pipe surface and the inner side of the rubber gasket.
Positioning and Assembly: Align the two halves of the clamp around the pipe, ensuring the leak site is centered within the clamp's inner cavity and the gasket is aligned without folding; align the bolt holes and hand-tighten the bolts to secure the clamp initially.
Diagonal Tightening:Tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence, increasing the tightening force by only 30% at each stage to prevent casing deformation or gasket displacement caused by uneven stress; continue until the manufacturer's specified torque value is reached.
